Trip to Durham
Ahahahaaa.....came back from Durham yesterday was definitely a good trip !!Let me recall the itenery for 26/02/05 (Sat) :-
0830h : Wakie , wash up
0900h: Went over to win win's place for breakfast, ate pizzas and chicken steak
0945h: Made our way towards haymarket metro station again sneaking in without paying XD
1005h: Reached newcastle central train station strayed ard on platform 3 to wait for our train to durham.
1025h: Finally boarded the virgin train...heee again not paying- the system here is really weird. no need to show yr pass when boarding de and then if u are caught u just need to pay for the actual amt onli so dumb. anyway it takes on avg 20 min for the inspector to reach the rear cabin so we just hide in the rear cabin coz train to durham takes onli 11min from newcastle. sounds fast coz the train is travelling at super high speed mah imagine from newcastle to london onli takes 3h !!
1036h: Reached Durham get off from the station immediately greeted by the famous Durham Cathedral and Castle very magnificent ^^
1120h: reached the Cathedral via Elvet Bridge went in take a few pics really nthg impressive after my trip to King's College in Cambridge. Bought 2 postcards at the bookshop as souvenirs thou.
1205h: Went to Durham university library inside got a mini exhibition abt the architecture in Tyne n Wear. Tyne is the river separating Newcastle and Gateshead while Wear river separates Sunderland and Durham-Darlington.
1255h: Tried entering the Castle but the next guided tour starts at 2pm so damn we decided to go market square to get some food for lunch XD
1315h: Reached Durham interior market abit like our Green Market in Newcastle. I got fried rice n curry for lunch. After lunch went over to the Tourist information center to get alot of brouchures of the Northeast.
1400h: Got back to the castle innocently queueing up for the entry tix....damn say 40 ppl adi we got to wait for the next tour at 3pm. GRRR....so we decided to buy the 4pm guided tour in advance in the meanwhile we will go to the Uni's botantical gardens.
1445h: Finally reached botantical gardens gracious me...almost like 1.5km away from the castle and the stretch of road is upslope all the way....very tiring almost wanna give up le....Went inside the botanic gardens without paying again think the cashier tot we are the campus students...how funny think UK system really very weird one...luckily we went in for free if not we would be cursing n swearing when we come out....coz there's absolutely nth to see inside de....all bare branches withered leaves onli got a few secenic sites for some pathetic photograph taking to remind us that we did come to this secluded place...oh well in the end we tot the japanese garden will be of some consolation to our miserable trip. But we are sooooooo wrong...besides the bamboo at the entrance wat paved in front of us is slippery steps and slimy mud...ewwww...and we decided to head back to the castle after sinking our poor shoes into the mudpool. So before going bak we actually went to the alpine gardens to wash our shoes on the ice...hahahaha so evil but oh well...XD shown in the pic below
1545h : Reached back Durham castle and we were told the tour will be slightly delayed coz the previous grp asked tooo much questions....-.-" somehow feel that the castle got something against us....so while we were waiting like silent lambs nursing our poor soles after the long journey to the botanic garderns in the chilly winds, i decided to go in to explore the buttery myself...hee the dining hall n the high table seemed impressive with the Roman architecture and potraits of previous masters n bishops hung on the gravel walls. But to me all these things seemed like deja-vu after my visit to Cambridge like 2 weeks ago. Anyway photography and cellphones are not allowed in the premises but i still managed to get away wif 2 pics inside the dining hall :P
1615h : Out comes our tourguide currently a graduate wearing suit tie and his graduation gown seems decent looking but someting looks wrong wif him lah but dunno wat's tat....some says he looked abit short >.< 1730h: Finally the tour ended after the trip to the underground chapel and after that we began to head home with slight drizzle. Very tiring indeed XD but quite happy lah coz alot of places we been to no need pay XD
That's all my frens for this weekend trip to Durham...stay tuned to next week we will be going to Alnwick Gardens ^^
